SPEAKER: Dr. Nina Solenski, Director UVA Telestroke Program, University of Virginia Health
Dr. Solenski is a full time practicing ABPN General and Vascular boarded tenured Stroke Neurologist and trained physician in the field of clinical stroke translational and clinical therapeutic research. She currently serves as the new Division Head of the Teleneurology Program, and Director of the UVA Stroke Telemedicine And Tele-education (STAT) program (since 2006). STAT is an acute stroke telemedicine program developed to meet the needs of regional and rural community hospitals.
She has also served as site Principle Investigator in numerous NIH and industry sponsored stroke-related clinical trials, and as a sub-investigator for over 40+ trials (since 1993) with leaders in Bioengineering, Cardiology, Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology and the School of Nursing.
The stroke team at the University of Virginia is an active member of the NIH StrokeNET Stroke and National Capitol Area Network for Research. They recently completed a 5-year 1.4 mil federal grant from Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) conducting emergency patient research on Telestroke systems of care in rural U.S. The project focused on quality improvement in tele-emergency (telestroke) systems of care and providing cost-savings data to CMS. This year Dr. Solenski will be working within the UVA Center for Telehealth on a global telehealth program implementing clinical telestroke and medical tele-education programming in the Dominican Republic.
